Each member of this group should do the following:

  1. 1. The March on Washington was a rally in 1963, in Washington DC, where blacks and other civil rights advocates, went a preached and demanded equal rights for blacks. The goal was to get civil and economic rights for blacks across America. There were many speeches given at this march. The most notable one being, Martin Luther King Jr's,"I Have A Dream" speech. There were hundreds of thousands of people who participated in this rally.

    2. After our performance, I want people to understand the magnitude of this event. I want them to see how much of an impact that this march had on this country and how it still affects it today. I want the audience to realize how bad conditions were for blacks before and how this impacted the changing of those conditions afterward. In general, I want people to come away with a good understanding of what happened on the March on Washington and the great impact it made.

    3. I think the best primary source our group has compiled so far, is the video of the "I Have A Dream" speech. I feel this is the best because it sums up the basic premise behind the march and it brings up great point that were crucial in the blacks getting their rights.

  2. 1. The March on Washington was an event that occurred in 1963, in which many civil rights advocates protested for economic and social rights to the African American society. The March was first proposed by civil rights leader A. Phillip Randolph, and was centered around Washington D.C were 250,000 of racially diverse people took hold in the march. Martin Luther King Jr's famous " I Have A Dream" speech was announced at the end of the rally when the march came to a stop and the Lincoln Memorial.
    2. What I want others to understand from our performance is the underlying background of the march, and the significance it had in American people. Most people only recognize the march as the moment thousands of blacks came to hear MLK's speech. I hope that through our performance we can show a broader understanding of the impact the march had in the civil rights movement. I would like to clarify how the march signified the end of racial discrimination, and the beginning of social equality. I hope that others feel the stories that were told by us, and possible how much the march affected both them and us.
    3. I think that the best primary sources we have acquired would be the many newspapers that documented the event in the 1960s. There are many perspective from the several editors, and there are much detail that each newspaper provides.

  3. 1. The march on Washington was a pivotal moment in the civil rights movement. It was also the second largest gathering of american citizens in american history. Many civil rights leaders attended the march including Philip Randolph, Bayard Rustin, John Lewis, and Martin Luther King Jr. It was filled with many influential speeches including the infamous I have a Dream speech by Martin Luther King Jr. It gave the civil rights movement much needed momentum and lead the movement in the right direction.
    2. The main goal of the presentation is to show those who may not fully know, what happened at the march and why it was so important. Another huge goal is to show people that Martin Luther King Jr. was not the only civil rights leader that made a great speech at the march. Many other leaders such as Randolph played just as an important role in the march as King.
    3. The best source of information we have got thus far is no question the news paper articles off the lib guide. It has real quotes and is told through the eyes of the people at the time who were actually there. The biographies on the lib guide also provide a huge source for backgrounds on the important figures in the march. The resource packets you gave us on the history leading up to the march have proved invaluable to our group effort as well.

  4. 1. The March on Washington was a movement in which African Americans marched on Washington to express their desire for equal rights, and job opportunities.

    2. After we perform I want the audience to have an understand of what the March on Washington is, and how it played a big role in acquiring equality for African Americans.

    3. I believe the best primary sources were the newspapers. I believe this because they have many quotes and they are very reliable.
