My current event was about the problem with spending on schools and education. Each year we spend more and more on education, more than many other countries. But the issue is that we do not have the grades to show for it. Places like Canada, China, and North Korea are all doing academically better than the United States but are spending much less compared to us. With the economic crisis that we are in today, un-needed spending can not be over looked. Obama argues that with every one dollar we spend on education, we are getting 10 dollars back in future jobs and economic income. With the price of college increasing, people are worrying about if they will be able to get the job that they need afterwards. College isnt a guaranteed ticket into a blue collar lifestyle.
So the question I have is: Are we spending too much on education and is the spending worth it? And if not, are we getting back the knowledge and information we need to get a job from the schools?
i absolutly believe about the spending we are doing for our education is worth it. Even though we may not have the best education in the world but the education is working and i believe that we should keep up with what we are doing. I think if we change things it will make things more complicated then they really was. so we should keep the spending that we are doing know instead of changing it.
ReplyDeleteYes I absolutely believe that the education we are acquiring is worth it. The world is becoming more global which means that as its becoming more connected (because of improved communication such as the internet) jobs are available at different parts of the world. I believe that because of this, getting a job is becoming more competitive and the only way to achieve a high salary job is by gaining a good education. I believe that if you do well in school then you have a higher chance of being accepted to college so the knowledge and information we need to get a job from going to school is present, its just what you make of it. I don't believe we are spending too much money on schools, i just believe that we are not as determined here as they are in other parts of the world to do well in school (ie 7 hour school days compared to 10). In this way, if we could change our culture to be more interested in school then we would get more jobs but this is a nearly impossible task. Overall, education doesn't always get you a good job but it defenetly boosts your chances.
ReplyDeleteI believe that government spending on education is absolutely necessary and if the United States wishes to equally compare to the academic levels of other countries, the spending should be focused on appropriate curriculum development and teacher salaries. Without the appropriate curriculum, Americans could not grow up to be successful in this large world. The heart of trade and major business in the world is China, yet schools such as Hudson High School fail to provide Mandarin as a language selection. Also, top of the line education cannot be expected of teachers being paid mediocre salaries. If the United States wishes to improve its public education, the government would focus its spending on teacher salaries and appropriate materials.
ReplyDeleteLike others have said, I believe that the education we are acquiring is worth it. Even though we may not be the best educated country in the world, we are working on our education. Withouth the appropriate teachings, Americans would not be able to grow academically and compare to other countries like China. Amazing teaching can't be expected from teachers who don't have great salaries. So, if the United States wants to improve the education system then the government should focus more of its spending on the teachers salaries so that the education for people would eventually improve.
ReplyDeleteLike many have said so far, the amount of spending we are giving education is very necessary. Yes, we don't have the best track record on education, but we continue to work on it. The spending that is currently being used is trying to improve our education system as a whole so it is quite necessary. I completely agree with Jeff when he says, the spending should be on curriculum development and teacher salaries. The curriculum we teach in schools is a large reason why we are falling behind countries like China and many others. Also you cant expect to have the best education when you're paying teachers inadequate salaries. The spending that is happening for education in the US is very necessary, we just need to make sure it is being used more effectively.
ReplyDeleteI do think that education here in America needs to improve, but in another way than putting more money into it. Putting all this money into education can help and i believe it does, but not to the extent where we will be getting better grades or scores than some other elite countries. Personally I believe that in order to improve our education is more schooling, whether or not it be longer hours or no summer break. That to me is the best way to improve our education but me as a student would not want that.
ReplyDeleteWe are absolutely spending a ton of money on education and it seems to be preposterous that we have to take out large student loans for college, but it is worth it. The education that we students are getting for our money is amazing and completely worth every penny we are spending. With education comes careers and without the education, we lack the knowledge we would need to get good jobs. We are getting the knowledge from the money we are spending and gaining it all back with the education we take in. Okay if the government wants to compare its education with other top leading countries. Okay that there education is cheaper and they spend less to have great education, that’s not us. The United States has great education and great colleges, and the money that we put into our education pays off in the long run with the careers we get.
